XII. Out West 2008 - Ghost Town!
July 12, 2008: The Folk Festival was not scheduled to begin until noon so on Saturday morning many of us traveled several miles south of Butte to Bannack State Park, the site ghost town of Bannack, Montana. Bannack was a mining town founded in 1862 and was briefly the capital of the Montana Territory. At its peak it had a population of 10,000 but as mining dwindled so did the population. By the 1950's most of the population had moved on and the last residents abandoned the town in the 1970's. It has been declared a National Historic Landmark and is now a Montana State Park.Read More
